This Psalm reveals how sin lies at the door of each of our hearts our entire life and how we must endure until the end to be saved by overcoming and loving our enemies and not our own life unto death.

David is the type of the elect who is pursued by Saul a type of our flesh or sin that lies at the door of our hearts and wants to have dominion over us.

God’s purpose all along is revealed to be one of giving us adversaries and strong enemies who are used in their unbelief to strengthen us in our belief. We learn through this process that we are more than conquerors through Christ and that he who is in us is greater than him who is in the world.

The end result of these victories that God gives us is a heart that is more humble and contrite, as we see our ownselves in the weakness of others and our enemies whom God has fashioned for our growth. We come to believe and to be confident that no weapon or enemy formed against God’s elect will prevail, but rather they will be bread for us and used of God to help us grow and mature in Christ.

The hope filled result of knowing that God is our helper and able to give us victory through Christ as we go from glory to glory through him is to exalt our great Father who is “above the heavens: let thy glory be above all the earth. ”

It is through this process of trials and being pursued of our enemy both within and without that we come to believe and trust Christ’s words to fear God and not what man can do to our flesh. In fact all man can do to our flesh is exactly what God has predetermined and that is part of the all things that work together for the good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose and a very central point of this study.

Mat 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
