The four part study with Psalm 60 is now available here.
In this series we came to see that to be “witnesses of these things” includes enduring the hardships that Christ endured, through being armed with His mind which is made possible by the holy spirit so that we can go from glory to glory (2Co 3:18). It is this process of suffering that enables us to cease from sinning (1Pe 4:1-2) and “tread down our enemies” within.
2Co 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
1Pe 4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
1Pe 4:2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
This narrow escape is given to the elect to witness to the world that through the discipleship (Joh 13:35) that we are granted through Christ, we come to believe and see that the gates of hell cannot prevail against (Mat 16:18) those things which God has chosen to do in Christ’s body in this generation (Mat 24:34).
Joh 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Mat 24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
God’s elect are a kind of first fruits (Jas 1:18) in this age who are maturing and gaining dominion over Edom within, as we come to deeply appreciate the sacrifice that He allows Babylon to make on our behalf by serving us in their unbelief (Rom 11:27-30). Throughout this study we are reminded of how God uses the body of Christ, the church, to help us tread under foot our enemies within and consequently prepare us to be the ones who will be used to tread down the enemies without by his grace and the faith of Christ, as we come up on mount Zion (Oba 1:21) to mercifully deal with the sins of mount Esau (Rom 11:32) that need to be judged and given an accounting for (Rom 14:12).
Jas 1:18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
Rom 11:27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
Rom 11:28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.
Rom 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
Rom 11:30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
Oba 1:21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’S.
Rom 11:32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
Rom 14:12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
