Dan 4:1-18 Let Seven Times Pass Over Him

In this study we will look at how the ‘dream-is-one’ principle is brought to life in God’s word with this particular section of Daniel (Dan 4:1-18), which speaks of a tree in the midst of the earth that is paralleled with the other dream that Nebuchadnezzar had of the statue in chapter three (Dan_4:10 , Dan_3:1).

Dan 4:10 Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.

Dan 3:1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.

Both the statue and the great tree of height represent Nebuchadnezzar and his influence on mankind, which influence has come from Satan the god of this world (2Co_4:4 , Rev_13:4), who has ruled in the hearts and minds of mankind since Adam and Eve. Nebuchadnezzar’s father is Satan, and like Christ and God, they are of one mind, and so what speaks to Nebuchadnezzar and his evil dealings on this earth is a reflection of the deeds of his father the devil that we all did in our appointed time (Joh_8:41).

God has given Satan to be the head of all the powers and principalities of this life that we wrestle against until this day, and he can only be overcome through Christ within us which answers this question “Who is like unto the beast? And who is able to war with him?”. It is Christ who conquers the beast and makes war with him and He Christ is far above all those powers and principalities (Eph_6:12 , Eph_2:3 , Eph_1:21).

Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Eph 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Eph 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

The progression being shown now in chapter four is that Nebuchadnezzar or Satan is going to be bound for a season, and this binding is represented by the “band of iron and brass” that will be put around the stump of the tree that was felled (Dan_4:23).

Nebuchadnezzar represents all of mankind who have been influence from the dragon who represents Satan (Rev 13:4). The binding of the stump from the felled tree is symbolic of the period of time when the saints will rule the kingdoms of this world without the influence of Satan on mankind, seeing he will be bound during that symbolic period of time known as the thousand year reign (Rev 20:2-4).

Rev 13:4 and they worshipped the dragon, because he gave his authority unto the beast; and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? And who is able to war with him?

Rev 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, the old serpent, which is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, Rev 20:3 and cast him into the abyss, and shut it, and sealed it over him, that he should deceive the nations no more, until the thousand years should be finished: after this he must be loosed for a little time.
Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus, and for the word of God, and such as worshipped not the beast, neither his image, and received not the mark upon their forehead and upon their hand; and they lived, and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
